“Flats Class In Session” Strong East winds kept the fishing action slow in an event that only saw six Tarpon weighed in and only eight others landed. Atypical Southwest Florida weather has made Tarpon fishing in Boca Grande very difficult. Couple unseasonable weather with packs of Bull Sharks roaming Boca Grande Pass and conditions have not been ideal for the Miller High Life PTTS events. |

The fishing action was subdued at best. In a tournament series which is known for numerous hookups and fish being landed, this event ended with only six fish being weighed, and only 18 others leader released. |

According to numerous reports, a large school of Tarpon entered Boca Grande Pass this week and the hookups were plentiful. With the large school of Tarpon came a massive amount of adult bull and hammerhead sharks. Captains reported schools of sharks in excess of 30 fish cruising the pass looking for an easy meal. and Release Mortality Study Review and Discussion Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Division of Marine Fisheries Management December 2004 Introduction: The Commission initiated a catch-and-release mortality study of tarpon in Boca Grande Pass in 2002. The 3-year study was initiated to gather information on mortality rates of fish that anglers caught using live bait and artificial jigs, the two predominant methods of tarpon fishing in Boca Grande Pass. The issue has been contentious throughout the time frame of the study, and in February 2004 the Commission initiated rulemaking primarily to address user conflicts between the two groups of anglers.
