Boca Grande, Fla., May 19, 2007 – The Miller High Life Professional Tarpon Tournament Series (PTTS) presented by Century Boats held its’ annual exhibition Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament Saturday, in conditions that can only be described as hell on water. An approaching cold front produced winds in excess of twenty knots which in turn produced waves in excess of four feet in Boca Grande Pass.
Despite the nearly unbearable conditions 54 teams that consisted of three lady anglers and a Captain and Mate, competed in the three hour event that saw only three fish weighed and six leader released.
The brutal conditions made the tough task of hooking, fighting, and landing Tarpon even tougher. Capt. Jeff Totten’s “Team Aquascapes Design/Century” weighed the first fish of the event at 129 lbs. Nearly an hour later “Team Florida Fishing Weekly/Century” led by Capt. Ozzie Fischer surpassed that weight to take the lead with a tarpon weighing 131 lbs. with less than an hour remaining in the event Terry Johnson, Orlando, Fl, on “Team Fishing Connection” led by Captain Phil Hartman weighed a 160 lb. Tarpon with an hour left in the event to take the victory.
Honorable mention honors go to “Team Screwin Around” led by JP Feustal and “Team Carl Black GMC” led by Captain Mike McDonald, for placing 4th and 5th with two releases and one respectively.
