Youth Prevails at PTTS Double-Header Weekend
Race to Secure Position in Championship Heats Up

Boca Grande Pass, Florida, June 5, 2006 – Florida’s largest tarpon tournament series, the Professional Tarpon Tournament Series (PTTS) Presented by Century Boats, heated-up this weekend in Boca Grande Pass, Florida, with a double-header event on Sunday. 

Team Salt Rock Grille with Captain Cody Chavis captured a victory in the first tournament with the successful catch and release of a 150 lb. tarpon, while Team Young Gunz with Captain Matt Anderson won the second of the day’s events with the successful catch and release of a 175 lb tarpon. 

Chavis and Team Salt Rock Grille, from St. Petersburg, fought its winning fish for 3 ½ hours, thirty minutes past the tournament expiration, finally pulling it to the weigh scales.  This is the third year that Team Salt Rock Grille has participated in the PTTS, and its first win.

A total of 26 tarpon were hooked during the first tournament, including eight releases and seven tarpon weighed-in for a total weight of 821 lbs, with all tarpon released alive.  Team Ranger with Captain Phil Hartman finished in second place with 124 lbs, Team Perry Dise with Captain Perry Mapes finished in third place with 123 lbs, Team Gulfview/Whitney with Captain Jeff Weeks finished in fourthplace with 119 lbs, and Team Andros Boatworks with Captain Bill Geho rounded out the top five with 103 lbs.

Team Young Gunz, as its name refers, is the youngest team participating in the PTTS.  The Venice-based team won the second tournament with a 175 lb tarpon. A total of 44 tarpon were hooked during the second tournament, including seven tarpon released and 11 tarpon weighed in for a total of 1,536 lbs, with all tarpon released alive.

Team Reel Time with Captain Rusty Driver finished in second place in tournament number two with 164 lbs, Team Sabalo with Captain Charles Duvall finished in third place with 163 lbs, Team Century/Raymarine with Captain Jeff Hagaman finished in fourth place with 155 lbs, and Team Lake N Bay with Captain Bo Johnson rounded out the top five with 151 lbs.

With their victories, each team won a Century 1902 Bay Boat powered by a Yamaha four-stroke F115 motor and a Continental aluminum trailer.With only the June 11 qualifying event remaining, teams are vying for a spot in the top 25, securing a position in the Jim Beam Tarpon Cup Championship, held on June 18.
