Professional Tarpon Tournament Series Kicks-Off 2006 Season
Team Miller High Life Scores Victory in First Event

The Professional Tarpon Tournament Series (PTTS)
presented by Century Boats kicked off its season this past weekend with a full field of 50 teams, and another action packed tournament from the waters of Boca Grande Pass in Florida.

Team Miller High Life with Captain Bobby Goodwin won the first of the five series event on Sunday, with the successful catch and release of a 164 lb. tarpon. With the victory, the team won a new 1902 Century Bay Boat powered by a Yamaha four-stroke F115 motor and a Continental aluminum trailer. A total of 81 tarpon were hooked during the tournament, including 36 releases and 12 tarpon weighed in for a total weight of 1,603 lbs. Team GiantTarpon.com with Captain Robert McCue finished in second place with 158.50 lbs.; Team Ranger/Yamaha with Captain Artie Price finished in third place with 154.45 lbs.; Team Jim Beam with Captain Brandon Naeve finished in fourth place with 148.62 lbs., and Team Backwater with Captain Bo Johnson rounded out the top five with 136 lbs.

The tournament series opened with a non-sanctioned Ladies Day Tournament on Saturday, as Team Century Marketing Mavens, with Captain James Goodwin, won the event with the successful catch and release of a 124 lb. tarpon. The team, consisting of Dean Burnett, VP/GM of Century Boat Company; Kerri Sutton, Sales Representative for Dockside Marine; Jill Prestridge, Marketing Manager for Century Boat Company, and Ruthie Parker, Marketing Assistant for Century Boat Company, won the event despite a slow day of fishing. A total of twelve tarpon were hooked during the Ladies Day Tournament, including one release and three tarpon weighed, for a total catch and release weight of 356 lbs.

Team Yamaha with Captain Troy Sapp finished in second place with 116 lbs.; Team GiantTarpon.com with Captain Robert McCue finished in third place with 116 lbs., and Team Kevin Russell PA with Captain Richard Whitfoth finished in fourth place with a release. The next PTTS qualifying events will be held May 28, June 4 and June 11. The Jim Beam Tarpon Cup Championship, consisting of the top 25 teams at the end of the season, will be held on June 18.
